What do I bring?

Well, it depends ….  on when you’re visiting, how you’re fishing, and a number of other factors. When in doubt:

  • It’s always smart to pack the rain gear and some water shoes or boots.
  • Insect Repellent & Sunscreen (supplies available in our tackle shop as well)
  • Bottled water, soda pop, adult beverages. Upon request, we’ll pack a thermos of coffee, lemonade or iced tea to get you through the day.
  • Clothing? Please. But seriously, think layering up and down in May, June, late August and September. Maine is well known for its warm days and cool evenings no matter when you visit. July is consistently warm so pack the bathing suit too.
  • Gas up the vehicle before you get here. While we do have gas on site for boats, we’re not a full service filling station. The nearest petro store is about 25 miles, out of your way. Please gas up in Bangor or Lincoln (your last stop for gas and adult beverages) on the way to Wheaton’s.
  • Traveling with kids? Pack a life preserver. We do have a limited supply on hand but with no life guard on duty… let’s be safe.
  • Fishing gear? Yes, please but not always necessary. Hmmm… this question could get complicated. If you’re not sure, let’s talk. (207) 448-7723 or email info@wheatonslodge.com. Our guides are a wealth of knowledge and can steer you in the right direction depending on the season and time of visit.
  • Chocolates or flowers. The wait staff and the housekeepers go crazy over that stuff.
Do I need a passport?

If you have a passport please bring it. If you don’t, no worries. A driver’s license is good, too.

How’s the fishing?

Not too shabby. With East Grand Lake arguably Maine’s best piece of landlock water,  Spednic lake’s thriving  smallmouth bass, white perch, and salmon populations, as well as Baskaheagan Lake nicknamed a “bass factory” you’ll have your fair shot at hooking a memory or two.

Where is the closest airport?

Bangor International Airport. You may rent a car from any of the national agencies at the airport and drive to camp (2 hrs.). Or we can meet you. Private planes can fly to Houlton Airport.

Will my cellphone work?

Yes, with limited coverage on and off shore. Cell phones and other devices tend to signal best while facing south, standing on one foot with your left arm up, wiggling your big toe on the right foot, and turning counter-clockwise twice before dialing with one eye shut.

Do you offer WiFi?

Yes, we do. But we don’t recommend it.

Do you take credit cards?

Yes, we do. We do, however, prefer cash or check. Please plan to pay your guide separately.
